Fine Art Mixed Media Paintings by Kathleen Rietz:
"Quiet Forces" Collection
The "Quiet Forces" collection features forces that make life on earth possible and also change the shape of it. Things that we barely notice unless studied over time. The painting that launched the idea for the collection is "Gravity”. We generally don’t think much about gravity. It is a quiet force, but it makes life on earth possible for us. I like the idea of our constantly changing planet and wonder what the future holds. I love exhibits in natural history museums that illustrate how glaciers, volcanoes and tectonic plates have moved and shaped the very ground we walk on, and most people barely give thought to any of it. I’m amazed at the idea that the Grand Canyon was once under water, or that a simple trickle of rain water can, over time, become a river that invites a fertile landscape to one that was once barren. This collection is a diversion from the color palette and style of my recent abstract florals, but challenging and fun for me as an artist who loves science and nature and wants to raise awareness about how incredible this living, changing planet is.
